About Your Therapist
Paula Moorman, LPC-MHSP (TN), LPCC (OH)
I am an independently licensed counselor in both Ohio and Tennessee, currently meeting with clients through telehealth. I earned my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Ashland Theological Seminary. I also have a Bachelor of Science in Social Work from Trevecca Nazarene University and trained through the Professional Christian Coaching Institute.

I have found great value in the various trainings and degrees that work together in creating my holistic approach. I spent a year-long internship working exclusively with grieving clients and have taken on the view that all counseling really is grief counseling. Loss happens in many ways and there’s a great deal of overlap in the result, no matter what kind of loss you have. Since beginning in the field of counseling, I have expanded my areas of focus to include all forms of trauma, relational distress, life transitions, as well as emotional and mental disorders. The theories and approaches most often used in my work include EMDR, CBT, Person-Centered and Mindfulness.
My purpose in life is to extend the hope I have within, and I do that through partnering with my clients to find meaning, strength and clarity along the way.
Services Offered
I offer individual counseling for adults (18+), primarily through virtual sessions, focused on healing from the past and finding hope for today. We will collaborate on making a treatment plan to be sure we are focusing on what is most important to you. The plan also helps us track progress so you can know you are heading in the right direction.
Each appointment lasts approximately 50 minutes and we can decide together how frequent the sessions should be to meet your needs.

What is EMDR?
EMDR (Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a therapy that helps people process and heal from trauma and other distressing memories. It uses various forms of bilateral stimulation to reduce the emotional impact of these memories, allowing the brain to form healthier connections to the memories and the past. This approach also helps people get unstuck from negative beliefs and view themselves in a more accurate and positive way.
What is CBT?
CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) is a type of talk-therapy that helps people understand how their thoughts, feelings and behaviors are connected. It focuses on changing unhelpful thinking patterns and behaviors to improve emotional well-being and manage challenges more effectively. This approach gives clients practical tools to handle challenges, improve mood and build healthier coping skills.
What is Person-Centered Therapy?
Person-Centered Therapy is a type of counseling that focuses on creating a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where clients feel heard and valued. The therapist helps clients explore their thoughts and feelings, trusting they have the ability to grow and find their own solutions. This approach allows the client to have more freedom in each session to go where they need.
What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness is the practice of fully focusing on the present moment; being aware of your thoughts, feelings, body and surroundings, without judgment. It helps people manage stress, improve focus, and develop a sense of calm and clarity by staying grounded in the here and now. Mindfulness is not about clearing one’s mind but rather noticing and observing what is.

“Everything can be taken from a man but one thing; the last of the human freedoms- to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances (Frankl).”

Please note: All clients work with me through self-pay, meaning that I do not process claims through traditional major medical insurance.
Some reasons for this decision:
> More Privacy – insurance companies don’t see the records and notes
> Flexibility – we decide together how often to meet instead of insurance companies deciding for us
> No Labels Required – you don’t need to have a diagnosis in order to receive care; a diagnosis that stays in your medical record for the rest of your life
